Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli now wants President William Ruto to help in changing the current constitution.
Speaking in Kakamega on Sunday, Atwoli said Ruto has a lot of battles to fight but the biggest is to have some aspects of the constitution of Kenya 2010 changed.
He insisted that while the President may want to have a project in the country, the constitution allows people to move to court and stop the project even when it is a good one.
The COTU boss noted that with the current Constitution, he might end his term without any projects for the people.
“We will help you but the battle you have is big. The first battle is to help us change the constitution of Kenya. The President wants to bring us a project, people are running to court, they are stopping it, yet it is a national project,” Atwoli said.
He spoke at Ekambuli Church of God in Kwisero, Kakamega County where he had accompanied President William Ruto.
He noted that some people are abusing the court process because of the constitutional provision.
Atwoli insisted that the Luhya community is fully behind President Ruto and they will help him achieve everything he plans for the people of Kenya.
He added that they are willing and are very intentional about it.
“We will help him, tuna uwezo, tuna sababu na tuna nia,” Atwoli said.
Other leaders present include Prime Cabinet Secretary
Musalia Mudavadi, Cooperatives Cabinet
Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya among other elected leaders from the county and
across the country.
