The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has advertised 5,690 job vacancies for principals, deputy principals, headteachers and deputy headteachers.
In a notice, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia said they are looking for 755 principals of Grade D3 and T-scale 13 and 816 deputy principals III of Grade D1 and T-scale 11.
TSC is also looking for 1,208 headteachers of Grade C5 and T-scale 10, and 2,911 deputy headteachers of Grade C4 and T-scale 9.
Macharia urged interested candidates, who meet the required qualifications, to submit their application online.
Applicants are directed to submit their applications through the TSC portal www.teachersonline.go.ke which should be received latest November 18, 2024, at midnight.
Macharia warned that manual applications shall not be considered, adding that successful candidates will be posted where vacancies exist.
The advert comes a month after the commission invited interested persons to fill 46,000 vacancies available for qualified teachers.
TSC broke down the posts as 6,000 posts for primary schools, 39,550 posts for Junior Secondary Schools, and 450 posts for secondary schools.
The vacancies for the intern teachers were on a permanent and pensionable basis from January 2025, for which the commission received Sh13.4 billion from the Treasury.
TSC had directed the primary school position candidates to have at least a P1 certificate, while those applying for junior or senior secondary school positions to hold a diploma in education.
Following the advertisement, TSC received 314,117 applications between October 1 and 8, 2024.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Education Committee, Macharia said of the applications, 93,646 were for primary teacher posts against the 6,000 advertised, 144, 177 were for JSS teachers against the 39,550 posts advertised.
She added that the Commission had received 76,294 applications for the 450 secondary school teacher posts it advertised.
Macharia told MPs that they were allocated Sh1 billion for the promotion of teachers in the 2024/2025 financial year.
