Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) of Murang’a used today during the morning sitting to eulogize their colleague Mark Wainaina who passed away last week.
Wainaina died on November 13 while receiving treatment in hospital.
The speaker’s message to the assembly read by his deputy, Moses Gachui stated that on behalf of the Members and staff of the Assembly conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends of Wainaina and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
“The Honorable Speaker, Members and staff of the Assembly joined the people of Murang’a in mourning the death of Hon. Mark Gicheru Wainaina, Nominated Member of the County Assembly. My encouragement to you is that you find comfort and fortitude to withstand the tragic loss,” said the deputy speaker.
Gachui said Mark will remain in the annals of Murang’a history as a vibrant youthful intellectual debater and discussant on climate change and ICT-related issues.
He said he relentlessly advocated for the development and social justice of persons living with disability and all persons both in the plenary and various committees of the House.
“Under his tenure as the Chairperson, of Committee on Delegation legislation, Wainaina spearheaded the adoption of the County Land Allocation and Leases Management Regulations,” he added.
Nominated MCA Sharleen Wambui, while joining the Members in conveying messages of condolence said they had lost a nobleman, an incredible man and a man who fought for the young people of this Assembly and the County at large.
Wambui who is also Chairperson of the Assembly’s Committee of Youth and Culture said Wainaina was a member of the committee and was among the members who championed the policies and bills that affected the young people of Murang’a County.
“Wainaina was on the forefront in championing the establishment of Murang’a Youth Service that saw many young people in the county get jobs,” she said, adding that he was loved by many for his noble character.
Muguru MCA Moses Muchiri said we have lost a great leader and a scholar at the most productive age and it was with great shock that he learnt about the untimely demise of Wainaina
“I thank the Lord for the few years you were given to serve humanity under the sun and may the Almighty God comfort your family during these difficult trying moments” he said adding that may his soul rest in eternal peace.
Kakuzi/ Mitubiri MCA Steven Muigai said it was with a heavy heart that he accepted the demise of Wainaina and it is a lesson to learn that we are all mortal beings.
“I have lost a friend who was an honest man. He was someone who was so promising and sat in the UDA Secretariat” he said.
Ithanga MCA Alex Ndunda said Wainaina will be remembered as somebody who was a friend to many, hardworking and a person who had a vision in life.
Wainaina will be laid to rest on November 23, 2024, at his home, Kirogo Village, Wangu ward, Murang’a County.
