The Ministry of Education has announced 217 scholarships in China and Hungary, for the academic year 2025/2026.
The Ministry, a notice on MyGov said it received communication from the Embassy of China that the Chinese government is offering 17 scholarships.
“The Chinese government is offering 17 scholarships to deserving Kenyan students to study undergraduate, Master’s and PhD for 2025/2026 academic year in China,” the statement reads in part.
The details of the scholarship and application procedure are available on the ministry’s website: www.education.go.ke and www.campuschina.org.
Applicants should have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 3 when applying for Chinese-taught undergraduate or general scholar programs ( those studying the Chinese language are exempted).
Those interested should also have acquired Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 4 when applying for Chinese-taught Master’s or doctoral programs.
They should meet the admission requirements of the applied universities in terms of academic ability, language proficiency and other relevant criteria.
For students interested in undergraduate, they must have a minimum KCSE mean grade of B, not more than 25 years of age, have an original KCSE certificate and have strong grades in major subjects that are key to the area of speciality preferred.
Applicants should also have completed secondary education in the last three years.
Those interested in a Master’s, they should have a bachelor's degree of at least Second Class Upper Division and be under 35 years of age.
The PhD students should have a relevant Master’s degree from a recognised university and be under 40 years old.
“The standard and online application forms should reach MoE not later than Friday, December 6, 2024, by 5pm,” the ministry said.
On its part, the government of Hungary is offering 200 scholarships to eligible Kenyans interested in undergraduate (BA/BSc) studies in the fields of agricultural science, computer science and information technology, legal science, economic science, engineering science, medical and health science and natural science.
For Master’s (MA/MSc) studies in the aforementioned fields.
The government is also offering Doctoral (PhD/DLA) studies in any field of interest and one-tier Master’s (OTM) studies in the fields of general medicine, dentistry, pharmacology, architecture and veterinary medicine.
The One-Tier Master (OTM) covers both the Bachelor's and the Master’s levels.
MoE said the study programmes and host institutions are accessible on the online application system’s website (https://apply.stipendumhungaricum.hu), which will be accessible from November 15, 2024.
“Interested candidates are requested to visit the MoE website at www.education.go.ke for detailed information,” the ministry said.
For undergraduates, they should have a minimum KCSE Mean Grade of B, not more than 25 years of age and have a grade “B” in core subjects in the preferred field of study.
They should have completed secondary education in the last three years and have an original KCSE certificate.
Postgraduate students are required to have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree at the upper second-class honours level and be below 38 years.
For PhD, applicants must have a relevant Master’s degree and be below 45 years.
MoE added that the standard and online application forms should reach it not later than Friday, January 17, 2025, by 5pm.
