RC Generate, a Rotary club closely linked to Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen), is targeting $400,000 in Rotary International Global Grants to expand its community impact.
The club, which has implemented and supported high-impact projects to the tune of Ksh.2 million, is also broadening its membership to include individuals beyond KenGen staff who share its values of service to the community.
Speaking during a visit to the club, Rotary District 9212, Governor Dr. Joe Kamau lauded RC Generate’s efforts and encouraged members to seize the opportunities available through Rotary’s grants.
“These grants are designed to create meaningful and sustainable change. By aligning your projects with Rotary’s seven areas of focus, such as disease prevention, water and sanitation, basic education, and economic and community development, you can significantly transform communities,” said Dr. Kamau.
During the engagement held in Nairobi yesterday, RC Generate President, Frank Ochieng highlighted the club’s strategic growth plan, unveiling its #FormNiFour strategy to guide activities over the next three years.
“Through this strategy, we aim to increase membership, expand our community impact, raise public awareness about Rotary service, and strengthen our fundraising capabilities,” said Ochieng, who also serves as KenGen’s Marketing and Corporate Communication Manager.
Speaking during the meeting Ochieng emphasized the club’s evolving vision.
“We began as a purely KenGen employees’ club, but now we are looking to admit peace-loving individuals who share in our ideals of service to help us grow our footprint in society,” he said.
The club’s unique connection with KenGen has enabled impactful projects in education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, as well as partner with golf clubs in fundraising initiatives towards lifechanging causes.
“KenGen’s commitment to sustainability and Rotary’s service ideals complement each other, allowing us to make a lasting impact in the communities we serve,” Ochieng added.
Dr. Kamau emphasized the importance of compliance for clubs seeking grants, including maintaining audited books of account, maintaining prudent financial management, and ensuring alignment with Rotary International standards.
“Grant funding is a game changer, but clubs must demonstrate accountability and transparency. RC Generate is well-positioned to meet these requirements and access significant resources,” said Dr Kamau.
President Ochieng expressed optimism of the club’s performance going forward.
“With our strong
foundation and partnership with KenGen, combined with Rotary’s global reach, we are well-placed to
create transformative change. Together, we can achieve even greater milestones,” he said.
