President William Ruto has announced that the government services platform e-Citizen currently offers at least 22,515 services.
Speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre on Thursday, Ruto said the platform currently serves a community of over 13 million users in the country.
The number is expected to continue growing, he said.
“E-citizen currently hosts 22,515 services of a thriving community of 13 million users,” the President said.
He noted that revenue collection through the platform has grown and this has helped his administration provide resources for state projects.
Ruto said e-Citizen has also redefined Kenya’s public service delivery as well as positively impacted many lives.
“Revenue collection through the collection has grown significantly enabling the government to mobilise critical resources for public projects. E-Citizen is not just a public service delivery platform. It represents a paradigm shift that has redefined public service delivery in Kenya and profoundly impacted lives," he said.
“In many ways, both big and small, our understanding and expectations of how public services are provided have fundamentally changed.”
He went on to say that the government service platform has removed barriers to access to government services for many Kenyans, as he narrated the case of women who would many trips to government offices to get their children’s birth certificates because of delays.
He also highlighted how the elderly struggled to access replacement services for their vital documents, which is now a thing of the past.
“The ripple effect of e-Citizen is no longer confined to digital transformation. Its impact on service delivery has improved lives, strengthened hope and opened new opportunities for our people," the President said.
Ruto further noted that the switch to e-Citizen has enhanced efficiency and saved time and money for both citizens and the government.
“Less paperwork translates to lower costs and streamlined process reduce administrative burdens and less bureaucracy leads to faster service delivery,” Ruto said.
He said the success of e-Citizen has also propelled Kenya
into a model of how governments can promote efficiency and competitiveness.
