Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on governors and all devolution stakeholders to work together for efficient service delivery.

Speaking after chairing his first Ordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) at his Karen residence, the Deputy President said this will minimise bureaucracy in service delivery to Kenyans.

Kindiki insisted that they must at all times be guided by the spirit of collaboration.

“Guided by the spirit of collaboration and coordination and the need to minimise bureaucracy in service delivery, the chairperson of IBEC has called on all devolution stakeholders to work in harmony, devoid of undue bureaucracy, for purposes of efficient service delivery to the citizens of the Republic of Kenya,” Kindiki said.

The DP’s remarks come ahead of the planned national and county governments coordinating summit meeting scheduled for next week.

Kindiki chaired a pre-summit meeting on Friday, at his official residence in Karen.

He added that they have already agreed on key policy issues that will be discussed at the summit.

“We have agreed on the high level policy agenda that will be submitted to that summit to take place on Monday,” Kindiki said.

The summit will be chaired by President William Ruto.

On Friday morning, the DP also chaired the 25th Ordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC).

During the meeting, they agreed on sweeping reforms to strengthen devolution.

Key measures spelt out include fast-tracking the transfer of assets, streamlining revenue systems and addressing financial bottlenecks to enhance service delivery and intergovernmental collaboration between counties and the national government.

The economic council agreed that all institutions give priority to the implementation of its resolutions and establish a monitoring system for effective tracking and reporting.

“That both levels of government promote effective coordination, cooperation and consultation in the implementation of their mandates to insulate devolution and service delivery, guided by the spirit of cordial and amicable settlement of concerns in mutual respect for each institutions mandate, and in pursuit of the greater public interest,” Kindiki said.

He made the remarks while briefing the media about the resolutions after charing his first IBEC meeting.
