Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has called out the Kenya Kwanza administration alleging that the administration has overlooked the Meru community, despite convincing them to vote for the coalition in 2022.

In a video seen by the Star, Linturi who was addressing a gathering insisted that the people of Meru are tired of being disrespected.

He went on to say that they have now learnt their lessons and the community’s 800,000 votes must be must count come the next election.

"Ni lazima heshima ya wa watu wa Meru irudi. Tumechoka kudharauliwa. Tumechoka kuangaliwa na macho as if, sisi ni watu hawana maana. Our 800,000 votes must count. And we are now clever than before. Tulikubali tukaamini, sasa madharau ni tele," he said.

This loosely translates to, “The honor of the people of Meru must return. We are tired of being looked down upon. We are tired of being watched as if, we are useless people. Our 800,000 votes must count. And we are now smarter than before. We agreed and believed, now the disrespect is more.”

He warned the Kenya Kwanza administration that the people of Meru are now clever than they were when they agreed to work together in the last general election.

Linturi said this mistake will never be repeated again.

He reiterated that Meru leaders will work day and night to see to it that the region returns back to its ‘glory’.

I am telling the current administration, hata kama tuliingizwa box kama wameru tukakubali mambo yote bila kuandikiana. Wengine wakisign agreements wakiwa na vyama vyao, sisi hatukuenda na chama ama nini. Kama hi heshima sio ya kutosha tumeelimika na tumekuwa,” Linturi said.

This translates to, “even if we were convinced as Meru people, we accepted all things without any written agreement. Others signed agreements with their parties, we did not go with the party. If this respect is not enough, we are clever now.”

“Going forward, we have learnt from our own past mistakes and we shall not repeat. Let it be know that nowadays… We will come to you and we shall work day and night to restore the glory of Meru.”
