Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka/ HANDOUT

Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka has joined leaders and Kenyans in demanding the release of the alleged abducted persons.

Onyonka demanded that all abducted Kenyans be released within 12 hours, unconditionally.

“If not, Kenyans of goodwill have an obligation under Article 37 of our 2010 Constitution to demonstrate...!” he warned.

This comes after the latest spate of abductions in the country, with at least seven young people abducted since December 17, 2024.

At the same time, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights said a total of 82 persons have been abducted since June, with 29 yet to be traced to date.

The Commission said in the last three months, there have been 13 reported cases.

One of those abducted in December has since been found.

The six who are still missing are Steve Mbisi from Machakos, Billy Mwangi of Embu, Peter Muteti of Nairobi, Bernard Kavuli of Nairobi, Rony Kiplang’at of Kiambu and Gideon Kibet alias Kibet Bull from Nairobi.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen urged families whose members have been abducted to report the cases to the police.

Speaking in Bungoma County on Friday, he asked them to provide accurate details surrounding the disappearance of those abducted.

The CS pledged to support the police during the investigations.

“We will support the police to ensure that they do thorough investigations to establish the whereabouts of those citizens," he said.

On Friday, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua alleged of a secret unit that has masterminded the recent abductions.

“There is a unit that is not under the command of the IG of Police. There’s a building in Nairobi where the unit is operating from,” he said.

“If this unit is not dismantled, we will be giving the name of the building and the full names of that officer and his cousin. Your guess is as good as mine as to who is the commander of that unit.”
