The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Epra) has reviewed fuel prices leading to an increase in petrol pump prices by Sh0.29.

In the latest review effective January 15 to February 14, the pump price for diesel increased by Sh2 while that of kerosene increased by Sh3.

In Nairobi, super petrol will retail at Sh176.58,  diesel at Sh167.06 and kerosene at Sh151.39.

In Kisumu, the prices will range at Sh176.62 (super petrol), Sh167.44 (diesel) and Sh151.82 (kerosene).

Pump prices in Mombasa will be Sh173.34 for super petrol, Sh163.82 for diesel and Sh148.15 for kerosene.

Super petrol will retail at Sh175.80 in Nakuru, with diesel and kerosene going for Sh166.63 and Sh151.01 respectively.

In Eldoret, the pump prices will be Sh176.62 for super petrol, Sh167.45 for diesel and Sh151.82 for kerosene.

Epra said the prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

The regulator further said the average landed cost of imported super petrol decreased by 0.14% from US$612.53 per cubic metre in November 2024 to US$611.69 per cubic metre in December 2024.

Diesel increased by 0.06% from US$643.69 per cubic metre to US$644.10 per cubic metre while kerosene decreased by 1.62% from US$660.30 per cubic metre to US$649.64 per cubic metre over the same period.

"The purpose of the Petroleum Pricing Regulations is to cap the retail prices of petroleum products that are already in the country so that importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered while ensuring reasonable prices to consumers,” Epra said.

This is the first time in a while since Epra announced a price hike for fuel in the country.

In the month of December, pump prices for super petrol dropped by Sh4.37, with diesel and kerosene dropping by Sh3 for the December-January cycle.

The biggest drop in fuel prices was in the October-November cycle, where super petrol was reduced by Sh8.18 per litre, diesel at Sh3.54 per litre and Sh3.54 per litre for kerosene.
