Deputy President Kithure Kindiki now says that he fully supports President William Ruto's drive to unite the country.

Speaking in Kakamega during the launch of the bonus payment to sugar farmers, Kindiki said that he also supports Ruto's decision to work with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the formation of a broad-based government.

He went on to say that with a united country, achieving the much-needed development will be easier.

“The last thing Your Excellency is to thank you for your efforts to unite the country. We support your unity with Raila Odinga and the broad-based government. Our colleagues Mutahi Kagwe have come on board and this unity will ease the development of our country,” Kindiki said.

The DP reiterated that just like any developing country, Kenya needs a wide political consensus to speed up the development process.

He also affirmed his commitment to work with all leaders, appointed and those elected to support the President.

“National unity is important so that economic transformation can be achieved faster. A developing country requires broad, political consensus for it to expedite its development agenda. I will work with all leaders in government. The ministers and PSs, from parliament and the leadership of parliament to make sure we support you,” he said.

Kindiki’s remarks follow a move by President William Ruto to incorporate members of the opposition parties, ODM and Jubilee, into his Cabinet.

At least five members of his Cabinet, including Hassan Joho, Opiyo Wandayi, Wycliffe Oparanya, John Mbadi and Beatrice Askul serve in the Kenya Kwanza administration as Mining and Blue Economy, Energy, Cooperatives, Treasury and ASAL and Regional Development Cabinet secretaries, respectively.

Last week, Ruto also appointed Mutahi Kagwe, William Kabogo and Lee Kinyanjui who are affiliated to Jubilee and former President Uhuru Kenyatta into his Cabinet.

They will also serve as Agriculture, ICT and Digital Economy and Investments, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretaries, respectively.
