The Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) has announced a recruitment exercise of volunteer servicemen and women across the country.
The nationwide recruitment exercise will begin on Monday, February 10, to Saturday, February 15, 2025.
In a public notice in Tuesday’s issue of My Gov, Commandant General NYS said the exercise will take place across 384 centres across the country.
The Commandant General highlighted the requirements that the prospective candidates wishing to be enlisted must meet.
These include, being a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective subcounty of recruitment, aged between 18 to 24 years and have a mean Grade of D plain and above in KCSE.
Interested candidates should produce their original national identity card, and academic certificates (and avail one set of photocopies of the same at the recruitment center).
They must have a certificate of good conduct, must be ready to undergo medical check-up during and after the recruitment exercise, be prepared to undergo rigorous physical training and be prepared to give voluntary service to the nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya.
The Service said successful candidates will report for the NYS paramilitary course at NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil and NYSTTI, Naivasha on dates and times which will be specified in their respective calling letters to be issued.
The recruits will be subjected to rigorous non-combat paramilitary training for six months.
NYS said orphans who meet the qualification requirements will be given special preference, subject to production of sufficient documentary proof such as parents’ death certificates or burial permits.
Further, persons with disability are also encouraged to avail themselves for the recruitment exercise in their respective subcounties and centres, provided they are able to withstand the rigorous physical training.
NYS stated that applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will also be considered.
NYS affirmed that it does not condone corruption in any form, warning that canvassing and giving monetary or other considerations for the purpose of admission is an offence which may lead to automatic disqualification and/ or prosecution.
The Service added that such instances should be reported promptly to the Commandant General on telephone number 020-2400129.
Canvassing is making contact with either elected members, senior officers or the employer outside of the application guidelines and trying to encourage them to ‘look favorably’ on your application.
