Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua addresses Mulembe Nation on February 4, 2025.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged the Luhya community to unite, stating that the race for State House would be an easy victory if they joined his camp.

Gachagua argued that the people of Western Kenya have, for many years, failed to rally together to strengthen their bargaining power, leaving them vulnerable to ridicule.

Speaking on Tuesday, he emphasized that the Luhya community has the numbers to form the next government.

"Where I am, that is where the government will be. I have extensive political experience because I studied political science at university," Gachagua said.

Addressing the Mulembe Nation during an interview on vernacular radio stations, he lamented that the community has historically only received political “leftovers".

"A game with the Mulembe Nation in the equation is game over," he declared.

"It is sad that a large community like the Mulembe Nation is settling for leftovers. Why should such a populous group rely on pity and generosity when it has the numbers to lead? That does not make sense."

Gachagua further asserted that forming the next government would be easy if the Luhya community aligned itself with the Mount Kenya region.

"You have the numbers—this government is yours for the taking," he told the people of Western Kenya.

"If you decide to walk with us, you must put your numbers on the table and state your demands. That way, we will form the government together."

Reflecting on past political alliances, the former DP recalled the 2002 election when the Luhya community played a key role in helping former President Mwai Kibaki end KANU’s rule.

"We are about to have another 2002 moment—just as the Mulembe Nation was part of the government then, it can once again help form the next administration," he said.

Gachagua addressed the Luyha community days after President Ruto traversed the region for six days.
