Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says that he has no problem with his successor Kithure Kindiki.

Speaking on Tuesday, Gachagua said that he is focused on doing his own things at the moment.

He went on to say that while he served in the office of Deputy President, he did it as an elected official and he cannot talk about Kindiki.

“I don’t want to talk about Kindiki. I am an elected leader I cannot talk about an appointee. I have no problem with him. I am doing my own things,” Gachagua stated.

After the National Assembly approved the allegations against Gachagua and subsequently confirmed by the Senate, President William Ruto nominated Kithure Kindiki who was then, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary as the new Deputy President.

He was later on confirmed to the role by the National Assembly and sworn in.

Gachagua's comment comes a few weeks after Kindiki said that his relationship with Gachagua had not changed despite being impeached.

He said that they remain friends.

“Our relationship is the same as it was. We’re good people, good friends,” he said.

Asked about lessons he has learnt from Gachagua’s term, Kindiki said he did not want to discuss the former DP.

He insisted that it would be wrong for him to start comparing himself with Gachagua.

“Allow me not to discuss my brother Rigathi Gachagua. It is wrong to start comparing myself with the person who occupied this office,” he said.

On whether Gachagua’s impeachment process was flawed, Kindiki said that the process involved all arms of government and he sees no problem with it.

He went on to say that should there be an issue, there is a clear constitutional process to make corrections to that.

It will be remembered that Kindiki and Gachagua were the two persons President Ruto had to pick a deputy ahead of the 2022 general elections.

He would then settle for Gachagau and Kindiki for the Interior docket.
