The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has implemented a major reshuffle of senior officers, just months before the retirement of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nancy Macharia.
Macharia is set to retire on June 30 upon the completion of her second and final five-year term at the helm of the commission.
As part of the reorganisation, some officers have been retired, while others have been promoted and reassigned to various positions.
The changes, which affect subcounty, county and regional directors, come at a time when Macharia’s departure is expected to trigger intense competition for the top post.
Her position is set to be advertised in the coming weeks to pave the way for the recruitment of her successor.
Among those affected in the latest shake-up is Joseph Kariuki, the Nakuru County TSC Director, who has been promoted to Nyanza Regional Director.
He replaces Jane Gatakaa Njage, who has been appointed as the TSC nominee to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
In Nakuru County, Geoffrey Matasero Chemos takes over from Kariuki. Chemos was previously the Uasin Gishu County TSC Director.
In Busia County, Francis Saina Keter has been transferred to Uasin Gishu, replacing Chemos.
Meanwhile, Jackson Ong’eto Atutu, formerly the Baringo TSC Director, takes over from Keter in Busia.
Mirriam Kosgei, who was the Trans Nzoia TSC Deputy Director, has been promoted and named Baringo County TSC Director.
Mark Muma has also been promoted and now assumes the position of Isiolo TSC Director, replacing Jayne Wambui, who has retired.
Catherine Kamawira, the Nakuru East Subcounty Director, has been promoted and assigned to Kirinyaga County TSC Director.
In a swap, Regina Opondo, the Nandi County TSC Director, has been transferred to Meru County, switching places with Mary Salome Ombisi, who moves to Nandi in the same capacity.
Other key transfers affect subcounty TSC directors.
Catherine Nyaguthii Mathenge (formerly Dagoretti) has been transferred to Nakuru East.
Patrick Mutua moves from Kinangop to Mvita Subcounty in Mombasa.
Ahmed Yusuf, the Wajir East Subcounty Director, has been transferred to Turkana, while Mohamed Aden, previously Matuga Subcounty Director, is the new Wajir East TSC Director.
Gertrude Chao, formerly Kibwezi Subcounty Director, has been moved to Matuga.
Vincent Nyongesa, the Lunga Lunga Subcounty Director, is now the Saboti Subcounty Director.
In Kisumu Central, Maurice Abungu has been moved to the TSC headquarters to work in the staffing department.
He has been replaced by Solomon Buyela, who was previously in Turkana Central.
The latest shake-up is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the commission’s leadership as it prepares for new leadership following Macharia’s retirement.
