Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged the people of Nyanza and supporters of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga not to see the people of Mt Kenya as their enemies.

Speaking on Monday night, Gachagua said the people of Nyanza and those from the Mt Kenya region should not be fighting.

He insisted that the people from the mountain only have a problem with President William Ruto, not Raila or the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

“I want to take this opportunity to tell supporters of Raila Odinga from Nyanza that they should not fight the mountain people because we are not their enemies at all. We have a problem with President William Ruto, we have no problem with Raila Odinga and ODM,” Gachagua said on KTN.

He explained that the recent events where people allegedly celebrated Raila’s defeat in the African Union Commission chairmanship poll was a misrepresentation of the truth.

The former DP insisted that it was only a few women in Kirinyaga.

“Some people are blaming the people of Mt Kenya for the loss just because a few women in Kirinyaga celebrated his loss,” he said.

During the interview, Gachagua said he was open to working with the former Prime Minister and any leader who means well for the future of Kenya.

Gachagua has been reaching out to all leaders including those in the opposition seeking to have a working relationship ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He has been seen with other opposition leaders including Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper, Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) and the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), among others.

On the sidelines, he has also been holding meetings, which he terms ‘consultations’ with elected leaders allied to him, professionals and current and former politicians from all levels at his Wamunyoro residence.

He insists it is the side that he is on that will form the next government.
