Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says that as he plans to launch his party, his deputy party leader will be a Gen Z.

Speaking during a media roundtable with Kamba speaking radio stations on Wednesday, Gachagua said his party will involve young people to a very large extent.

He said that it is time to start telling these youngsters that they are the leaders of tomorrow because they are the leaders of today.

The former DP said that his experience, coupled with the knowledge and creativity of Gen Z will give a very good blend to the leadership of the country.

“My party will involve them (Gen Z) to a very large extent at the position of deputy party leader.  I'm the party leader, my deputy will be a Gen Z so that we involve them. We don’t just tell them they are the leaders of tomorrow. They are the leaders of today. I want to also mentor them, I have the experience, they have the knowledge and creativity, this coupled with my exposure we should have a very good combination,” Gachagua said.

He went on to say that young people believe in him because he stood up for them when it mattered the most.

The former DP was referring to the anti-government Gen Z demos.

Gachagua insisted that Gen Z know he is a truthful man and that he paid a very heavy price for siding with them in the wake of the protests.

“The day it mattered most, I spoke for them, I stood for them. I am on record. I am not speaking for Gen z because I left office. I spoke when I was in office and they believe in me, I have many supporters among the young people because they know I'm truthful and genuine,''  he said.

“Gen Z trust me because when it mattered most, I stood up for them and the consequences were very heavy on me. I am a man who has been persecuted because I believed in our young people.”

This comes even as Gachagua continues to seek alliances with other opposition leaders from across political parties in the country.

He has so far met Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua (People Liberation Party) and Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), among others.

He has also been meeting professional, current and former elected leaders from all levels, among others.
