The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced temporary closure of a section of Uhuru Highway towards Mombasa Road.

According to the authority, the affected section will be the Mombasa-bound traffic between University Way and Kenyatta Avenue roundabouts from 9 am and 10:30 am.

The disruption will allow a procession for the World Engineering Day.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public of a temporary closure of Uhuru Highway (A8) at the section between University Way and Kenyatta Avenue roundabouts on the Mombasa bound carriageway on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 from 9.00 am to 10.30 am.

“This is to allow for a procession to commemorate the World Engineering Day,” KeNHA said in a notice seen by the Star.

The authority advised motorists heading towards the Mombasa Road direction to exit the Highway at either the Boulevard Hotel onto Harry Thuku Road, Moi Avenue and Kenyatta Avenue to rejoin the Highway at Kenyatta Avenue roundabout.

Alternatively, one can take the University Way roundabout onto Nyerere Road, Processional Way and Kenyatta Avenue to rejoin the Highway at Kenyatta Avenue roundabout.

“KeNHA advises motorists to approach the section with caution and follow the proposed traffic management plan herein as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.”

KeNHA also announced the closure of Juja - Gatundu Road temporarily to allow for installation of the cross culvert.

The closure started on Friday, February 28, up to March 3, 2025, at 8 pm.

“Juja - Gatundu traffic will be diverted through the diversion at Equity Afia Medical Centre (Juja) Road to join Juja - Gatundu Road and Mucatha Road through Jomo Kenyatta University Way roundabout to join Thika Superhighway as an alternative route during this period," KeNHA said.

The two closure notices come just days after the authority also announced a traffic disruption at the Haile Selassie roundabout to allow for the construction of the pedestrian underpass.
