Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has announced that former Kenyan international boxer Conjestina Achieng will not leave the rehabilitation centre in Mombasa, where she has been recuperating after relapsing.

Sonko said this is despite her recovery.

He said Conjestina will continue working at the rehabilitation centre where she has landed a paid job.

The former governor said he is proud of her recovery progress and wishes her the best as she gets a fresh start.

“The God of another chance has again done wonders. Former international boxer Conjestina Achieng AKA Conjee, has fully recovered after relapsing. However, this time around, she's not going back to the village. She will be working at the Mombasa Women's Rehabilitation Empowerment Centre with a salary.

“We are proud of her progress. Her journey is a testimony that recovery is possible, even after setbacks. We wish Conjee all the best in this new beginning and continue to keep her in our prayers.”

Sonko returned Conjestina to the centre after she relapsed from an initial recovery.

The relapse was blamed on old friends from her village in Siaya.

At the time, she had been employed as a bouncer in one of the establishments owned by Mike Sonko.

According to Conjestina, she is glad to be in a better place now.

She noted that relapsing is a normal occurrence for any recovering person, but everything is going to be all right.

“I relapsed, but now I am okay, and I work with Mama Amin, especially on the women's rescue team as a bodyguard in collaboration with Mike Sonko, who has really helped me, and I thank him. Relapse is a normal thing, and if you believe in God, everything is going to be okay.”

The former international boxer said she is elated to be working at the home where she received care and is now well.

“I trust in God, and I believe everything will be okay on my side. I am now taking care of women who are being treated here, and I will also be working with Mama Amina Rescue Team whenever they will be going for assignments outside.”
