Gachagua threatens to name leaders behind Narok chaos

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is now threatening to expose the individuals behind the chaos witnessed in Narok on Monday between police and the members of the community.

The violence left at least five people dead in Angara Barikoi, Narok County.

According to Gachagua, the occurrences on Monday amount to crimes against humanity.

“This forceful displacement of population is a crime against humanity, and whoever is culpable must face crimes against humanity.

“I am gathering evidence and information on this matter, and we will name and shame those responsible for this heinous act,” he said in a statement on Monday night.

Gachagua questioned why anyone would give shooting orders to innocent civilians.

“Who gave shoot-to-kill orders and archaic brutality on women, children, and innocent civilians? Who deployed GSU and RDU officers to exercise unlawful, lethal, and brutal police force on innocent Kenyans in Ang'ata?

“My heart goes out to the families of the five innocent people who have been shot dead and several who have been injured in Ang'ata Barikoi over the 6,000-acre piece of land which rightfully belongs to the citizens who have occupied the land for several decades. What kind of insatiable appetite is this by a section of leaders for the primitive accumulation of grabbed land and wealth, can our Nation sink into?” he posed.

Violence erupted in Angara Barrikoi on Monday in a dispute over a piece of land, resulting in five deaths.

Local residents, claiming historical ownership of the land, blocked the main road to prevent land officials from surveying the area.

The protest quickly escalated into violent clashes with police officers, leading to injuries on both sides.

Police and land officials’ vehicles were torched in the process.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has vowed legal action against anybody who will be found to have fanned violence.

Murkomen pledged to bring to book all those who were involved in the Monday afternoon violence.

“Calm has been restored, but we will ensure those who incited the violence are brought to justice. We will not stop at anything, and it will not matter the position one is holding,” he stated.
