Kenya Defence Forces has appointed Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Adan Musa as the fourth Navy Sergeant Major.

The event held on October 8, was presided over by Commander Kenya Navy Major General Paul Otieno.

This ceremony is said to have marked a significant milestone in WO1 Musa’s distinguished military career, which began on April 27, 1988.

Musa’s appointment follows the promotion of the previous NSM, WO1 Bwana Haji Omari, to Defence Forces Sergeant Major (DFSM).

Musa has served in various capacities, including Gunner Operator, Company Sergeant Major at the Defence Forces Recruits Training College, Coxswain, and Seamanship Instructor over his extensive career.

Musa's leadership as NSM is expected to play a key role in maintaining discipline, unity, and professionalism within the Kenya Navy.

During the ceremony, Major General Otieno praised both WO1 Musa and WO1 Haji for their exceptional service, highlighting the critical role of the NSM in upholding discipline within the force.

He referred to WO1 Musa as the “backbone of discipline” and expressed full confidence in his ability to lead.

Haji, now serving as DFSM, reflected on his time as NSM, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the role and encouraged his successor to maintain a strong focus on discipline, loyalty, and integrity.

He commended the Kenya Navy personnel for their dedication to safeguarding the country’s maritime borders, noting the importance of solid leadership.

In his acceptance, Musa thanked the Kenya Navy for the trust placed in him, pledging to lead with fairness and uphold the core values of the service.

The ceremony was attended by senior naval officials, including Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe, Brigadier Abraham Biwott, Chief of Naval Medical Services Brigadier Justino Muinde, and Deputy Commander Kenya Navy Fleet Colonel Marcella Aritho, alongside other senior officers, Masters-at-Arms, and sailors.
