Over 170 teams to participate in Kipchumba Karori volleyball tournament in Eldoret

The tournament is aimed at building new talents.

More than 170 teams have registered to participate in the annual Kipchumba Karori volleyball tournament to be held in Eldoret from Friday, December 13.

The event is mainly sponsored by its patron lawyer Kipchumba Karori who is the Political Advisor and Secretary of Legislative Affairs at the State House.

The tournament will run for three days at two venues including Eldoret Polytechnic and Wareng High School with the finals set for Sunday.

Six teams from Uganda and One from Rwanda have confirmed participation in the event which has attracted the highest number of participating teams.

Organizers of the event led by founder and coordinator Paul Bitok said plans for the event had been finalized and they were working closely with the Kenya Volleyball Federation.

“We thank our patron and other sponsors including the Ministry of Sports for coming on board to ensure the success of the tournament,” said Bitok.

He said the tournament is aimed at building new talents.

Among the 170 teams, 64 are self-supporting and from mashinani (grassroots), the patron was keen to support and develop.

Apart from the men and women senior teams and the Mtaa self-supporting clubs, the event will also feature Universities, colleges and schools categories.

Bitok said the tournament has previously produced more than ten professional volleyball players

A total of Sh3.6 million cash awards and trophies are to be given to winners with Sh500,000 for senior teams and Sh300,000 for the winners of the self-supporting teams category.

Uasin Gishu County is also supporting the event which attractedc88 teams in the last edition

Diana Maiyo who is the event’s communication officer said plans for the event were in place ahead of the kick-off whistle.
