The Confederations of African Football have announced Morocco as the host of the 2024 edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League.

This will be the second edition to be hosted in Morocco, following the 2022 tournament which was won by hosts AS FAR, who beat Sundowns Ladies in the final.

The tournament is set for 9-23 November 2024, with the title, pride and USD 400,000 in prize money at stake.

Meanwhile, runners-up will walk away with USD 250,000.

Eight (8) Clubs will contest the top prize of the premium women’s continental football competition, with South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns defending their title.

The Mzansi side nicknamed the “Brazilians” won the tournament last year, when it was hosted in Ivory Coast, as well as the inaugural edition hosted in Egypt in 2021.

Sundowns will battle hosts AS FAR, as well as the six zonal qualifiers, including UWC Ladies (COSAFA), Aigles de la Medina of Senegal (WAFU A), EDO Queens of Nigeria (WAFU B), Egypt's Tutankhamun (UNAF), Ethiopia's CBE FC (CECAFA), and DR Congo's TP Mazembe (UNIFFAC).

Sundowns who hammered Sporting Club Casablanca 3-0  in the November 2023 finals are favourites to retain the title but hosts AS FAR cannot be ruled out altogether as they won the prestigious trophy on home soil in 2022.

Sundowns head coach Jerry Tshabalala says they can't underrate any team side having suffered a 4-0 beating in the hands of the  North Africansginats in the finals at the Moulay Abdallah stadium in Rabat.

Ethiopian beauties Commercial Bank of Ethiopia narrowly edged Kenyan champions Police Bullets FC 1-0 in the Cecafa finals on 7, August to clinch the Cecafa ticket.

Former Kenyan champions Vihiga Queens represented Kenya and Cecafa in the maiden edition of 2021 hosted in Egypt.

Kenya Police Bullets head coach Beldine Odemba, wished the Ethiopians all the best as they fly the Cecafa flag, but warned them to expect tougher competition next season.
