Posta Rangers will be desperate to extend their newfound form when they clash with an in-form Kenya Police FC in a high-stakes midweek fixture at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, on Wednesday.
The mailmen find themselves entrenched in the relegation zone, languishing bottom of the log with a meagre 14 points, level with 17thplaced FC Talanta.
However, Saturday’s gritty 2-1 triumph over Nairobi City Stars, courtesy of goals from Lewis Lumula and Oliva Maloba, has injected a glimmer of hope into their faltering campaign.
Vincent Owino’s solitary strike for City Stars was merely a consolation.
Rangers now face a daunting task against fourth-placed Police, who are riding high on 24 points—level with record Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia.
Police are unbeaten in their last six league outings and will undoubtedly be a tough nut to crack.
The Mailmen, however, have bolstered their ranks with the appointment of former Shabana FC tactician Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo to help the side evade imminent relegation.
The club hopes his vast experience will steer them out of the drop zone.
“New chapter, new leadership. Excited to welcome back coach Sammy Omollo Pamzo to the team. Back to work as we prepare for Police,” read an official statement from the club.
Omollo takes the reins after guiding Shabana to safety last season, finishing 14th on 38 points. Collins Omondi, who will assist him, was serving as interim coach during their victory following the departure of Bernard Kawizi.
Speaking post-match, Omondi expressed relief at ending their dismal run.
“Getting back to winning ways is a massive relief. This victory was crucial to breaking our losing streak, and we are delighted to have pulled it off.”
Since the start of the 2024/25 campaign, Rangers have managed just three wins—against AFC Leopards (1- 0), Bidco United (3-1) and City Stars.
They’ve also registered five draws and suffered seven defeats.
