Kabras RFC skipper George Nyambua lauded the side’s tactical adjustment as they defeated Quins 43-22 for the second consecutive week to keep their unbeaten run intact in the Kenya Cup.

The return of play-maker Ntabeni Dukisa energised the Kakamega-based side, who maintained top of the log position on 40 points with a stronger points differential to KCB and Menengai Oilers as the league enters the business stage.

Nyambua said they have the momentum to build on following the two wins over Quins in successive weekends.

“This win is a confidence boost for us. This match was an arm wrestle in the first half but our quality and our depth and the tactical tweaks shone in the second half as we pulled away from Quins,” noted Nyambua.

The captain led from the front, scoring a brace in the victory. The Kenya Simbas skipper said they will not rest on their laurels with more fixtures coming up against Nondies, Oilers and KCB in the next three weeks.

“We have some tough fixtures coming up and there is a target on our back. The boys are determined to finish the group phase in style and defend our title,” observed Nyambua.

Other try scorers for Kabras were Erick Cantona, Patrick Lumumba, Griffin Chao and Lamech Ambetsa with Cantona slotting five conversions.

Faran Juma kicked over five penalties and a conversion with Leon Nyang scoring a try. Kabras led 17-9 at the interval.

Quins’ coach Paul Murunga rued the defensive lapses in the second half which cost his side and extended their losing run of five matches.

“We battled and were competitive for the first half but in the second half, we were not able to match Kabras physicality and intensity,” In other results, KCB demolished Nondies 55-8 to stay second on the log while Menengai Oilers thrashed Impala 56-3 for third place.

KCB and Oilers clash next weekend in a match that may determine who gets a home semifinal come next month. Former Kenya Sevens’ star Oscar Ouma inspired Nakuru to their first win of the season with a 32-22 win over Kisumu at home while Mwamba earned their second win of the campaign with a hard-fought 20-10 victory over Strathmore Leos.

Blak Blad made light work of South Coast Pirates, winning 50-3 at Kenyatta University grounds.
