Nyayo Stadium will host Harambee Stars’ 2026 World Cup qualifier against Gabon on March 24 as a dry run for the Africa Nations Championship in August.
Stars sit fourth in Group ‘F’ with five points from four matches. Cote d’Ivoire lead the standings with 10 points, followed by Gabon (nine) and Burundi (seven).
Gambia (three) and Seychelles (zero) occupy the bottom two.
Nyayo Stadium was approved on Sunday after a two-day inspection by a Confederation of African Football delegation led by director of tournaments and events, Samson Adamu.
The CAF team toured Nyayo, Moi Stadium, Kasarani, Kasarani Annex, Ulinzi Complex and Police Sacco Stadium.
“I’d like to commend Kenya for the commitment to making this tournament a success. There was great excitement around the Chan draw held in Nairobi,” Adamu remarked.
At Kasarani, the delegation was content with the progress of key areas including canopy sections, floodlights and electronic scoreboards.
Meanwhile, Nyayo has already seen one of four new floodlights installed, with work progressing well on the others.
The pitch, dressing rooms and media tribune at Nyayo are reportedly in prime condition.
