KCB RFC are keen to address some positions in the team including back row, centre and lock during the upcoming transfer window.
Coach Oliver Mangeni said those areas need to be addressed urgently after the bankers finished trophy-less for the fourth year running.
They lost 31-8 to Menengai Oilers in the Kenya Cup semifinal and 25-21 to Kabras in the Enterprise Cup.
“We have gaps in the team in positions like the back-row, centre and lock, and it’s critical we make adjustments as we head to the transfer window and off-season,” observed Mangeni.
The former Kenya Simbas lock said they plan to go on massive recruitment of high school players as they seek to build a championship-winning team in the next two seasons.
“We are looking at getting players from high schools. There is a lot of talent which we believe we can tap into to make our squad stronger,” he said.
The club bid farewell to three stalwarts last weekend with former captain Davis Chenge, Rocky Aguko and Elvis Adunga all leaving the club. Mang’eni said the players have been good servants of the team for the past decade.
“They have been valuable members of the team and we wish them well in their next journey,” he observed.
The tactician’s attention now turns to the bronze medal match against Nondies on Saturday, noting it will be about bragging rights.
“It’s a vital match as we want to finish the season strongly. Nondies are a strong side and we will be going all out for the victory.”
The bankers have a silver lining with the KCB second string playing in the Eric Shirley Shield final against Menengai Oilers on Saturday.
“We are delighted that our second team will be seeking to defend the title and hopefully, win silverware on Saturday,” he added.
Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Mang’eni was optimistic that with the players at his disposal, could contend for the National Seven Series.
“With
the calibre
of players
we have, I believe
we can win the Seven
Series,” said Mang’eni.
