Athletics Kenya executive member John Kimetto reckons the flat course at the fourth leg of the cross country series in Bomet offers athletes an ideal platform to test their speed.
The series heads for Bomet Airstrip on Saturday after stops in Machakos, Kapsokwony and Iten.
Online registration is ongoing through the AK portal.
Kimetto believes the course will offer valuable insights for coaches and athletes as they prepare for a busy 2025 season.
“The course we have here in Bomet is flat. It is a course where athletes can test their speed and coaches can use it to gauge their athletes ahead of the 2025 season,” Kimetto noted.
“Preparations are going well and I am happy to report that we are in the final stages.”
“We have already mapped out the course. It is in excellent condition. Taping of the course will be done on Friday to ensure everything is ready for Saturday.”
Kimetto expects more than 500 athletes to participate.
“This event is always well attended. Bomet is the hub of athletics and the home of stars like world 3000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech, world 10km record holder Agnes Ng’etich, and Chicago Marathon champion John Korir among others,” he noted.
“We urge athletes to register and turn up in large numbers. We have enough accommodations here in Bomet. The fans should also turn up in large numbers to support the athletes.”
Athletes are expected to pick up their bib numbers in person on Friday at the AGC Town Church in Bomet. Saturday’s programme includes the senior 10km race (men and women), the Under-20 6km (women) and Under-20 8km (men) races and a 2km loop event.
The women’s U20 6km race will be the first act at 9 am followed by the men’s 8km race at 9:50 am and the women’s 2km loop at 10:40 am.
The women’s 10km race follows
at 11 am, followed by the men’s
2km race at 11:50 am while the
men’s 10km race closes the
proceedings at 12:10 pm.
