Eldonets dare high-flying Thunder in KBF encounter

Both teams remain unbeaten so far in the league with Thunder winning all their four matches while the Eldoret side have two wins from two.

Platinum Eldonets sharp shooter Tyson Omweno said they are to slay Nairobi City Thunder when the two sides clash at in a Kenya National Basketball league encounter at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium Saturday.

Both teams remain unbeaten so far in the league with Thunder winning all their four matches while the Eldoret side have two wins from two.

“It will be a tough game. But we have trained well since our last trip to the city and we are psyched up. We are coming for nothing else other than a win. It is very possible,” said Omweno, whose side will also play Kenyatta University Pirates.

Eldonets had their best-ever Nairobi trip when they collected maximum points by beating Absa and United States International University Tigers 61-55 and 58-54 respectively.

Omweno, who led the team’s scoring tally in the two games, said they will also take Pirates very seriously. The KU side suffered a 90-20 loss at the hands of Thunder in their previous outing.

“We are not going to meet KU thinking it will be easy after their loss against Thunder. They can be dangerous and so we will take them seriously,” he said.

Eldonets speedy guard, Renny Moibi, who is expected to play a key role this weekend, said: “Thunder are in great shape and have great players. They are unbeaten, just like ourselves, which makes this encounter a good test for us. We will compete... that’s for sure.”

On facing his former side KU, Moibi said: “I will always have a soft spot for them but this is league and everyone wants to win and that’s what we will go for.”

Friday night basketball will see University of Nairobi Dynamites play Zetech University Sparks from 6 pm while former champions Ulinzi Warriors face Terrorists.

On Saturday, Uon Dynamites will tackle USIU Flames while Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) Lynx will come face-to-face with KU Oryx.

Zetech Sparks will take on Eldonets, USIU Tigers meet Umoja as KU Pirates play Ulinzi Warriors.

On Sunday, Jkuat Lynx will battle Eldonets, Equity Bank Dumas tackle ANU Wolfpacks while Terror confront  Strathmore Blades.
