Muranga Seal missed a chance to move to the top of the National Super League after being held to a barren draw by hosts Mara Sugar at Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday.

A win would have seen Murang’a Seal leapfrog Shabana to the top of the log. Shabana was not in action this weekend. The Glamour Boys will host Kibera Black Stars on Saturday.

Murang’a remained second on the log with 55 points two behind log leaders Shabana while Mara Sugar maintained the fourth position with 44 points, missing a chance to close in on the promotion favourites.

Murang’a Seal coach Vincent Nyaberi said he was satisfied with the draw.

"We picked a crucial point away from home. I'm happy with it. We wanted to win so that we go top of the table but things didn't go the way we wanted," said Nyaberi. "We are firmly in the promotion race and the point against Mara Sugar is important."

Nyaberi further rued missed chances and poor officiating during the game which was played at Awendo Green Stadium in Migori County.

"FKF should do something about officiating. I'm unhappy with today's officiating," Nyaberi added.

He says he has now turned his focus on the next game against Mwatate FC.

"We want to return to winning ways against Mwatate FC," vowed the former defender.

On his side, Mara Sugar coach Francis Xavier said: "It was a tough match that was characterised by missed chances. My strikers were not clinical in front of goal."

He added: "The draw is not good for us because we want to push for a playoff place. However, all is not lost. We will keep on working hard. With seven games to go, we still stand a chance of sealing a playoff slot."
