The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will hold national elections on December 7, the electoral board has confirmed.

Candidates eyeing the FKF Presidential and National Executive Committee (NEC) positions must submit their nomination papers by October 14.

The verification process will take place between October 18 and 19, with the preliminary candidate list set to be released on October 21.

The election journey will kick off on November 9 with the county representative elections.

“Aspirants wishing to submit their nomination papers to the electoral board will have the opportunity to do so within the stipulated timelines and must adhere to the guidelines set under the FKF electoral code,” read a statement from the FKF electoral board.

To run for the FKF presidency, hopefuls must part with a non-refundable fee of Sh300,000, alongside meeting several eligibility criteria.

Candidates must be adult Kenyan citizens by birth, have at least five endorsements from FKF members, and have actively participated in football – either as a player, official or member – for at least two of the past five years.

Moreover, candidates must meet the leadership and integrity requirements outlined in Chapter Six of Kenya's 2010 Constitution.

Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohamed, Sammy Kempes Owino and former FKF president Sam Nyamweya are some of the candidates who have shown interest in the top FKF seat. For NEC positions, the fee is set at Sh75,000.

NEC candidates must be Kenyan citizens and have five endorsements, two of which must come from members based in the region they wish to represent.

They must also have played an active role in football in two of the past five years.

County representatives are required to submit a Sh10,000 fee, alongside securing three endorsements from FKF members in their respective counties.

Like their counterparts, they must also have been actively involved in football for two of the past five years.

Just like the presidential and NEC hopefuls, they must have played an active role in football in two of the past five years.

The electoral board also revealed details about the voter register.

“The voter register at the county level will comprise clubs that have participated in the NSL, men's Division One, WPL, WNSL, as well as regional and county leagues, for at least two of the last five years,” said the board.

At the national level, the voter register will include one delegate each from; the 48 FKF counties,  the 18 Premier League clubs, 10 NSL teams, 10 National Division One sides, the first three Women Premier League clubs, the Women's National Super League and the Players’ Welfare Association.

Candidates dissatisfied with the election results will have three days to appeal after the elections, with a Sh100,000 fee required to lodge an official complaint.

The electoral board reassured stakeholders of its commitment to a transparent and fair process.

“As per our mandate, the electoral board is committed to overseeing free and fair elections within the statutory framework of both the FKF and Fifa statutes.”
