Teams aiming to advance from the subcounty levels in the Nairobi East and Nairobi West branches of the Football Kenya Federation will compete in the Sakaja Super Cup subcounty finals this weekend.
On Saturday, December 30th, the Nairobi East branch's first final will pit FC Baghdad against Kariobangi Blackstars, the finalists in Embakasi North Sub County, in a game scheduled to begin at 10:00 am at Dandora Stadium.
Later, at the same venue, Komarock Rangers will face Panthers FC in the Embakasi Central finals, while Mbotela Kamaliza will play Kickoff to Hope to determine the winner of the Makadara sub-county at 2:00 pm.
In an action packed football weekend, more matches will be played across all sub counties on Sunday and Monday as the Sakaja Super Cup moves to the Nairobi East and Nairobi West regional competition.
The 2023 first edition runners-up, Kawasaki, will play the South B All-stars in Starehe sub-county at Impala grounds starting at 9:00 am on Sunday in Nairobi West region matches.
South C Rangers will play Bomas of Kenya at 11:00 am in the Langata sub-county finals and Shofco Kibera FC will play Powergen FC in the Kibra sub-county final duel at 1:00 pm at the same location.
The final game of the day pits Leads United FC against Kibagare Slums FC in the Westlands sub-county finals. Dagoretti North and Dagoretti South finals are scheduled for Monday.
The teams are each eyeing a spot in the regional finals. Githurai All Stars of Nairobi East defeated Kawasaki of Nairobi West to win the inaugural Sakaja Super Cup.
As the competition moves on to the pivotal regional stages, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has urged supporters to show up in force and cheer on their favorite teams.
" I encourage fans to turn out in large numbers to support their teams as they strive for that sub-county ticket to the next level. This year's battle pits West vs. East; which side will take the bragging rights? Come out and support the boys as we grow football at the grassroots level," Sakaja said.
