Kabras utility back Matthew Osimbo has been ruled out of the Rugby Africa Cup after sustaining an Achilles injury while training with the Simbas.
However, he underwent surgery to correct the injury and should be available for the start of the 2024 -2025 pre-season in September or October.
The Kenya Simbas confirmed the news through their official social media page.
“Wishing Mathias Osimbo a quick recovery following surgery owing to an injury sustained after the Simbas camp last week. Our Team Manager Jimmy Mnene passed by the hospital to check up on him this morning,” the Kenya Simbas announced.
Osimbo rose from the Kenya U20 team to become a regular starter for Kabras last season.
He was one of 14 new faces in the training squad in readiness for the continental championship.
Mnene hopes Osimbo will be ready to play for the Simbas during the November test window.
“He is a bright young talent and we hope he can get to play consistently once he recovers from injury,” observed Mnene.
The Simbas will embark on their second training camp on Monday as part of their preparations.
"The first camp was successful I believe the boys know what we expect of them,” said Mnene.
The third and final camp will run from July 2- 10 after which the final 28-man will be named.
The Simbas will open their campaign against Senegal at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, Kampala, Uganda, on July 20.
The winner will book a quarterfinal date with the winner of the clash between Algeria and Cote d'Ivoire on July 24. The final is scheduled for July 28.
