KCB RFC assistant coach Dennis Mwanja is wary of the threat posed by Quins ahead of their blockbuster showdown on Saturday at the Lion’s Den in Ruaraka.
The bankers are second on the log with 30 points and are unbeaten with the Ngong Road side fifth on 22.
Mwanja believes his charges will have to play much better than they did when they beat Blak Blad 32-22 last weekend at Kenyatta University.
“Quins always bring their A-game when playing KCB. Last weekend, we made schoolboy errors and lacked composure. On another given day, the scoreline could have been different,” Mwanja explained.
“We have been playing lower-ranked opposition for the first six matches of the season but for the next couple of weeks, we will play top contenders and so our performance has to go much higher and maintain our push to get a home semifinal in the playoffs,” noted Mwanja.
“Quins are smarting from two losses to Oilers ( 42-28 ) and Nondies ( 26-24 ) and I am aware they will be looking to bounce back against us. They are a good quality side with lots of talented players who are well coached,” he said.
The former international said they hope to have big lock Andy Cole Omollo for the match against Quins after he missed last weekend’s match against the varsity side.
“He was carrying a slight knock but he will be assessed to see if he will be available for the match on Saturday.”
The tactician said their preparations have been interrupted by the Simbas alignment camp in Kakamega but expressed confidence his charges will be up to the task.
“We have a fairly large squad to choose from and the next available player should be ready to step up,” he noted.
The technical bench will largely keep faith with the squad that did duty last week with forwards Griffin Musila, Wilhite Mususi, Emmanuel Silungi, Steve Wamai and Elvis Olukusi the key actors in the forward pack.
The experienced Michael Wanjala will be the lead actor in the
back-line alongside Simbas internationals Brian Wahinya, Michael
Wamalwa, the destructive Bob Muhati and skipper Jacob Ojee.
