Bungoma ready for Madaraka Day celebrations – PS Omollo

PS confirmed that Matulo Airstrip in Webuye is also 96 per cent complete

Interior PS Raymond Omollo has confirmed that Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma County is set to host this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations.

The stadium will host a total of 12,700 residents and the VVIP lodge at the stadium will handle a total of 2,000 guests.

Speaking at the stadium grounds on Wednesday after a National Steering Committee meeting, the PS noted that the stadium is undergoing final touches in its completion.

“The stadium has now taken shape and it’s at 96 per cent complete in readiness for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations,” the PS told journalists, adding that the committee is certified with the work that has been going on at the stadium.

Additionally, The PS confirmed that Matulo Airstrip in Webuye is also 96 per cent complete adding that there has already been a first test landing by the Air Force who were satisfied with the state of the runway.

“Together with the National Steering Committee and Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka we have confirmed that the airstrip is complete and the final installation of the perimeter wall is on course,” he said.

The PS said that the State Lodge where the luncheon will be held is 100 per cent complete and has been handed over to the national government to host guests who will attend Madaraka Day celebrations.

He noted that from May 27 to 30 there is going to be an exhibition at Kibabii University where they will be showcasing various aspects within the agricultural space.

“This year’s Madaraka Day celebrations theme is "Agriculture and food security,” he said.

Omollo, however, assured residents of the presence of enough umbrellas in case of a downpour to cushion them from being rained on during the celebrations.

On his part, Bungoma Governor Lusaka welcomed all Kenyans to Bungoma for the 2024 Madaraka Day celebrations

The County boss applauded the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the National Youth Service (NYS) for helping the completion of the stadium.
