Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro has urged investors to build high-end tourism resorts to attract visitors in the county.
Mung’aro said Kilifi lacked facilities to accommodate tourists despite being a known tourism destination.
He asked the investors to revive hotels which collapsed in Malindi.
“We are asking investors to build new five star hotels to attract high-class tourists,” he said.
Early this month, Kilifi hosted One Life Rally Safari Kenya, a group of well-off businessmen.
The businessmen were on a week-long tour from Narok to Malindi with high end cars such as Ferrari and Lamborghini.
The businessmen from Europe, made up of innovators, entrepreneurs and popular investor were n Kenya to experience Kenyan roads.
Lamborghini Urus owner shipped his vehicle to the country for the event.
They were all hosted at Billionaires resort, a hotel owned by Italian Billionaire Flavio Briatore.
“We want high end hotels that meet the standards on Billionaires resort to attract and sell Kilifi as a tourism destination,” Mung'aro said.
He said there is a high demand for tourism products including conference tourism.
“I am urging all investors whose hotels collapsed to revive them and bring new investors to build more hotels,” Mung'aro said.
The One Life Rally Kenya participants also visited Tsavo East National Park with their high end vehicles.
“It's our first time in Africa and that’s why we incorporated new companies because we want to offer our members a new experience,” Antonio Colleluori the One Life Rally Africa CEO said.
He said they were happy to explore investment opportunities in Kilifi and Malindi, places with renowned beach destinations.
Colleluori said the concept of the rally was to connect people and create business networks.
“It is the first time for most of us in Africa. We came here to enjoy a new experience and we are doing very well,” he said.
Niko Red, one of the Lamborghini Urus owner said his dream was always to own a Lamborghini since childhood and with hard work, it happened.
Red said he was the first Lamborghini owner to do the first One Life rally event in Africa which he described as very interesting.
“Most of the Participant's cars were shipped but because there was no time, I decided to put my car on a plane. So it went with the plane to Nairobi. It was a very special experience, just like a movie,” he said.
Red said his Lamborghini had no challenges despite the tough journey.
