After being in office since 2019, Jairus Musumba has finally been shown the door.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja this week appointed Patrick Analo Akivaga to the position.

Analo is also the current Chief Officer, of Urban Development and Planning.

He was born and raised in the Prime Cabinet Secretary's backyard, Sabatia sub-county, Vihiga County.

Also, he is not new in the corridors of City Hall as during the reign of former Governors Mike Sonko and Ann Kananu, Analo served Deputy Director, Urban Development and Planning in the city County.

Nairobi MCAs on March 15, 2023, vetted and rejected county secretary nominee Jairus Musumba.

The MCAs didn’t find him suitable for the position as he failed to respond to most questions that were posed to him during vetting, raising questions about his competence.

However, the high court temporarily stopped the removal and replacement of Nairobi's acting county Secretary Jairus Musumba by the County Assembly.

The county secretary is the backbone of all Nairobi public services.

Between 2013-2022, Nairobi had eight county secretaries.

They include Lillian Ndegwa, Gregory Mwakanongo (in an acting capacity), Robert Ayisi, Leboo ole Morintat in an acting capacity, Peter Kariuki, Pauline Kahiga and Justus Kathenge and Jairus Musumba in an acting capacity.

The county secretary is the head of the county public service (Article 235 of the Kenyan Constitution).

Public service means the collectivity of all individuals, other than State officers, performing a function within a State organ.

The CS is also responsible for arranging the business and keeping the minutes, of the county executive committee subject to the directions of the executive committee.

They also convey the decisions of the county executive committee to the appropriate persons or authorities.
