Nairobi Regional Commissioner (RC) Katee Mwanza has cautioned individuals vandalising road furniture along Kitisuru-Thika Road in Westlands and Kasarani sub-counties to stop forthwith.

Mwanza said the government has spent a colossal amount of funds and resources to construct road furniture and other infrastructure in the county.

He said the government will not allow people to destroy them.

“Security committees in sub-counties should ensure that vandalism of road furniture is stopped and those involved arrested and arraigned in court,” Mwanza said.

The RC said in 2022 there was widespread vandalism of critical infrastructure in the country.

This made the government to make the decision that anyone found vandalising road furniture will be charged with terrorism.

The RC spoke during the Nairobi National Government Development Region/County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee.

It was held at the Regional Commissioner boardroom at Nyayo House.

The meeting was attended by the Director of Delivery Service for Nairobi and Central Regions  Jonah Orumoi, and other departmental heads.

Mwanza told people encroaching on the Southern bypass and other road reserves within the county to stop.

He called upon regional and county officers implementing government-funded projects and programmes to work in collaboration with officers from other departments.

"Through teamwork, the region will accomplish the earmarked projects on a timely basis," Mwanza said.

He said it is prudent for government officers to be conversant with the projects and programmes being undertaken in other departments.

This will enable them to respond effectively to questions from the public, for they are the link to the government.

“The government is undertaking a lot of projects within the county to benefit citizens.

"Sharing of information with colleagues is important as it will eliminate misinformation reaching the public on various platforms,” Mwanza said.

The RC told officers to conduct engagement and sensitisation forums for the projects and programmes they are undertaking. He said such engagements will also eliminate waste.

He urged the regional and county heads to be keen on monitoring and evaluating the projects they undertake.

The RC said assessment impact, follow-ups, feedback from beneficiaries, and constant supervision result in quality projects.
