Police in Mombasa have questioned
Kongowea MCA Jabess Oduor
for allegations he stole a Sh2.5 million Toyota Harrier from a German citizen.
He was picked by four officers from his King’orani home
on Friday at 11am.
Oduor drove himself in the same vehicle he is alleged to have stolen to the Dog Section in Kisauni.
He was accompanied by an unidentified woman.
Kisauni deputy police boss Walter Abondo said Oduor was not under arrest.
“There are allegations concerning a vehicle whose transaction seems to be an understanding between the seller and the buyer. He has not been arrested. He has just been called in for questioning,” he told the press.
Oduor insisted he did not steal the vehicle.
He said he loaned some Sh2 million to Lillian Odhiambo, who he claimed is a wife to the German, Joachim Steuerwald.
“They defaulted in payment and I attached some of their vehicles. People loan out money to each other all the time and when there is defaulting there are consequences,” Oduor said.
Abondo said the matter is under investigation.
According to a transcript of an SMS conversation between Oduor and Steuerwald on October 28 and 29 last year, the German denied Odhiambo is his wife.
He said he has no wife and Odhiambo is just an acquaintance.
“I have no idea who you are and I don’t pick random numbers. The last time I checked I don’t have a wife. So I have no idea who borrowed money from you and why the hell you would lend someone in the first place. I really don’t see what this has to do with me. Don’t contact this number again,” wrote Steuerwald, according to the transcript.
