Butere MP Tindi Mwale has been elected Public Accounts (PAC) Chairman in an election held on Wednesday morning.

Tindi garnered nine votes against Otiende's six.

Garissa Woman Representative Amina Udgoon was elected vice chair.

She defeated Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo.

In his acceptance speech, Tindi said he will work with all members to make the oversight committee vibrant.

"I thank all members for the opportunity you have given to me to be the chair. We shall work together to make the committee vibrant and make sure the accounting officers are up to date," he said.

Tindi has been acting for the last six months since John Mbadi was elevated to the Cabinet.

On his part, Otiende thanked members who voted for him.

"I want to thank those who voted for me. Thank you," Otiende said.

Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi was elected as chairperson of the National Assembly's Budget and Appropriations Committee unopposed.

He was the only contestant who had submitted his papers at the close of nominations.

Standing Orders require interested members to fill forms to be submitted a day prior to elections.

Presiding clerk said the office received duly filled nominations from Atandi, who was proposed and seconded by Florence Jematia (Baringo WR) and Danson Mwashako (Taveta MP).

Endebess MP Robert Pukose was proposed for vice chairperson by Mulu Makali (Kitui Central) and Atandi.

The position was held by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.

He neither defended his seat by the deadline for nominations nor attended the meeting for election.

On assuming the seat, Atandi thanked members of the powerful budget team.

Atandi pledged to ensure uniform distribution of resources.

"We know the map of the republic of Kenya and know that resource sharing affects peace and stability."
