Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has bashed organizations and politicians who have called or compared the ongoing protests by the Opposition to criminal activities.

The ODM legislator on Thursday explained that the protests by the Azimio coalition are guided and allowed by the constitution

"As Azimio, we are not saying we are going to invade people’s supermarkets and businesses because that is criminal. We are saying we have a right for protests and anyone who says can ban protests is lying to themselves," he added.

On Wednesday Kisumu Governor Anyang'Nyong'o indefinitely suspended demonstrations in the county but later reversed the decision.

His counterpart from Nairobi, Governor Johnson Sakaja also banned demos in Nairobi.

Inspector General of police Japhet Koome had also banned the planned countrywide protests by the Azimio la Umoja Coalition.

The IG said that no one will be allowed to hold demonstrations this week.

Going further, Senator Sifuna further called out institutions for taking sides while accusing Azimio of engaging in criminal activities.

"I must disabuse people of equating Azimio to criminals. Most of the organizations that are voicing and adding their voice into the happenings NCIC, Churches, I think they are getting it wrong," Sifuna said.

The first-term Senator explained that the nation is quite tired as Kenyans have gotten to a place where they are experiencing partial disorientation.

"If you can compare the invasion of private property after someone announces they will invade to when someone says they will hold peaceful demonstrations and say it is the same thing, then you are getting it wrong," Sifuna added.

The Senator stated that any serious organization which is interested in bringing Kenyans to conversations of the day, cannot begin by putting conditions on one person.

"As the Secretary General of ODM and leader of the senate, when someone comes to tell me to call off protests I will dismiss you immediately," Sifuna said.

The legislator emphasized that  Azimo has a right to hold protests as guided by the constitution.
