Lagdera MP Abdikadir Hussein on Saturday faulted his ODM party's plan to resume demonstrations saying Kenyans have no time for such.
ODM Leader Raila Odinga on Friday said the Azimio coalition will have no option but to resume demos if the Kenya Kwanza camp fails to heed demands.
This comes after the Azimio side suspended the bi-partisan talks on Tuesday citing a lack of commitment by their Kenya Kwanza counterparts among many other reasons.
But speaking in Masalani town during the inauguration of the Masalani municipality, Hussein said that even though he is an opposition MP, he does not support demonstrations.
According to the MP, the protests only serve to slow down the economy that has already been affected.
"While I am an ODM MP, I am not in support of my party's plan for demonstrations since they are not helping anyone. If anything they just serve to further make the situation worse," he said.
He added:
"Kenyans are going through very tough times. The economy is bleeding. What is in the minds of Kenyans is how they will put a meal on the table. So when you start telling us to go back to the streets to demonstrate. Honestly, how will that help us."
The MP further used the opportunity to heap praise on the Kenya Kwanza government's plan to end the perennial water shortage in the region.
"I want to thank the President William Ruto-led government for embarking on an ambitious program of building mega-dams. We have every reason to believe that this will be done. Once that is done then a very big problem will have been solved," he said.
The process is already undergoing public participation to identify where the dams and mini-dams will be built.
Lagdera sub-county has for a long period suffered from water problems compared to the other sub-counties.
This has led to residents trekking for long distances in search of the commodity.
In some instances those whose sell do so at an exorbitant fee.
