Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked the government to cease purging of his allies in the national assembly committee.

The former DP said most of the leaders removed from the committee positions were on the front line on campaigning for the current regime.

Gachagua said that it is unfair for the government to remove those who stood with them during the last elections.

"I am even surprised that some of those who are supporting the government move are from the Mount Kenya region," the former DP said.

He was speaking during a church service at ACK Holy Trinity Kitengela Church in Kajiado County on Sunday.

A new list of committee members published by the leadership of the majority and minority sides shows that while some have been retained, their seats are up for grabs.

A number of Wiper MPs were also affected in the changes. Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has been retained in the Budget Committee. In the changes, Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia was removed from the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee to the Broadcasting Committee.

Runyenjes MP Eric Karemba was removed from the Labour committee where he was chairperson and moved to the Constitutional Implementatin Oversight Committee (CIOC).

Others who moved to CIOC are Mary Wamaua (Maragua), Teresiah Wanjiru (nominated) and Manyatta MP John Mukunji. Embakasi North MP John Gakuya, who was chairperson of the Trade committee, was moved to the Broadcasting committee.

Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara was removed from the Lands Committee, where she was vice chairperson to the Members Services and Facilities Committee.

On the ongoing housing project, Gachagua called on the government to prioritize secondary needs rather than on the basic needs like water and roads.

He also criticised the government for the abductions citing that Kitengela was highly affected after 3 young men were found dead after they were abducted by unknown people.
