President William Ruto has pledged to pay motorcycle loans for 10 boda boda riders.
This will apply to riders who use electric motorcycles.
Ruto directed Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to hold a meeting with the riders so that they can agree on who will benefit from the president's generosity.
"Bwana Governor upange na hawa waheshimiwa so that we get 10 people. Ukubaliane na hawa waheshimiwa tupate watu kumi," he said while directing someone else to pick up the cheque.
"Na boss.. ulisema wewe ndiye mkubwa wa pesa? Utakuja kuchukua cheque kutoka kwangu. Utaniambia ni pesa ngapi hizo kumi, nitakuandikia cheque."
He spoke on Tuesday when he visited Roam Park, an electric motorcycle assembly plant in the Industrial Area.
Ruto had earlier interacted with a rider, Lilian, who informed him that her motorcycle was bought on loan. Lilian will be among the 10 beneficiaries.
The rider said maintaining electric motorcycles is cheaper compared to fuel motorcycles.
"I used o spend around Sh400 to buy fuel but with this, I can charge at home with less than Sh100 and I'm able to do my job the whole day," she said.
She added that servicing is also cheaper.
Ruto said the government is working towards ensuring that there are 200,000 electric motorbikes by the end of 2024.
