Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura has called on Kenyans to be careful ahead of the Christmas season.

In a statement on Thursday, Mwaura said Kenyans should be vigilant on weather and flood alerts.

He said the Ministry of Roads has restored all damaged roads that occurred during the El Nino rains.

"As the festive season approaches and travel increases, we earnestly urge motorists to exercise extreme caution, heeding weather and flood alerts disseminated through various government communication channels," he said.

"In the aftermath of the recent El Nino rains, significant damage has been inflicted upon crucial government infrastructure, majorly roads, water sources, government buildings and educational facilities."

He said the government has successfully chlorinated polluted water sources to make them usable.

Mwaura added that plans for the reconstruction of other affected sources are slated to commence post-recession of floodwaters.

"The Ministry of Education has received comprehensive damage reports from institution heads, enabling strategic measures to mitigate disruptions to the upcoming school term," he said.

The Government Spokesman said the Transport Ministry has reinstated passage along the previously severed Garsen - Witu-Lamu (A7) road between Gamba and Lango la Simba.

He said through this, there will be the resumption of traffic flow.

Mwaura added that the Kenya Coast Guard Services remain on high alert, continuing evacuations and facilitating transportation for affected individuals and relief supplies in flooded regions.

The Kenya Red Cross, he said, has generously contributed two more boats to bolster these efforts.

"May this Christmas season bring joy, and may the year 2024 be prosperous for all Kenyans."
