Veteran trade unionist Francis Atwoli has termed as a big milestone President William Ruto's provision of 100 computers to Khwisero Technical and Vocational College.

On Saturday, the president toured the college and opened the Jitume ICT Hub in the institution, which he said will offer unemployed youth opportunities to get digital jobs.

Atwoli, who joined the president during the tour, said the machines will now allow thousands of youths to get jobs.

''The provision of 100 computers is a big milestone for vocational training for the youth in Khwisero,'' Atwoli said.

The Central Organization of Trade Unions(Cotu) Secretary-General also thanked the president for his visit to his backyard.

"Let me thank William Ruto for visiting my home constituency of Khwisero and particularly for introducing training in Digital Economy for our young men and women,'' he said.

The president who opened the facility said that refashioning the technical institutions to lean more on ICT will ensure that they impart our youth with skills that they can smartly monetise.

"Even in the rural parts of our country like Khumusalaba in Kakamega County, the young people will earn decent incomes to support livelihoods,'' Ruto said.

The president challenged the youth to take up the opportunity and acquire computer skills to start ''earning money''

"It will take you like a month to train here, and then you will start earning money, is that something that will be difficult for you?" Ruto posed.

The president told the young people that he had already secured opportunities with internal firms that would provide the youths with jobs.

''Your job will just be about dialling the keyboard and then you make money, simple,'' Ruto said.

Ruto warned the youths against heeding the wrong counsel from some politicians he said are misleading them against the government's programme for digital jobs.

'' I have sat down those opposition leaders and asked them what their agenda is and they have told me they are planning for protests,'' Ruto said.
