The Kenya Wildlife Society has warned Kenyans over wildlife displacement due to floods.

In a statement on Friday, KWS called on Kenyans living near wildlife-prone areas to avoid outdoor activities after dusk.

KWS asked Kenyans to report unusual wildlife sightings in their communities.

"The recent heavy rains have caused significant wildlife displacement, leading to the risk of unexpected encounters in community wildlife-prone areas," the society said in a statement.

"As a precaution, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) cautions the public to avoid outdoor activities in those areas, especially after dusk."

KWS called on Kenyans to report unusual wildlife sightings through the KWS 24-hour toll-free line at 0800 597 000, via WhatsApp at +254726 610509, or to the nearest KWS Station for immediate intervention.

"The safety of people and promoting wildlife coexistence is our priority."

On Thursday, KWS said that there were no lions sighted in Langata after reports from the community.

This is after claims of lions allegedly sighted near Langata Women's Prison in Nairobi.

KWS said they mobilised a team to search for the lions but none was spotted.

"The KWS Problem Animal Control team promptly mobilised and conducted a thorough search of the area throughout the night. Despite their efforts, no lions were found," KWS said in a statement.

They, however, said the team is monitoring the situation closely and are on high alert.

They urged residents to stay vigilant and report any wildlife sightings to the KWS 24-hour hotline number 0800 597 000 or WhatsApp 0726 610509 for immediate intervention.
