A suspect in custody over the murder of a Mombasa-based female taxi driver has been linked to a similar incident that happened in Kisii this year, police say.

Detectives probing the murder of Victoria Muloki, a Mombasa-based taxi driver who was abducted and killed, revealed the suspect had confessed he also abducted a Kisii-based driver and killed him in a similar manner.

The team is investigating if the man is acting alone or has accomplices.

Police have linked the suspect, Edwin Ng'etich, to another abduction and murder incident that he, according to police committed in July 2024.

He told police his aim was the cars the drivers had.

Detectives say the suspect contracted the slain taxi driver, George Njuguna, for a car hire business from Kisii to Nairobi.

On reaching in Gigil, the suspect told police he murdered him and dumped his body in Gilgil before making away with his car.

The vehicle was later sold to another unsuspecting buyer in Nakuru and has since been recovered by police.

The investigators recovered another car in Burnt Forest, Uasin Gishu County, in which they believe the owner was killed in a similar manner.

The investigators revealed that the suspect opened up about the vehicle before taking them to its location.

Police are yet to establish the whereabouts of the owner of the car.

“He claims his motives in these are the cars that the drivers have. We are digging deeper,” said an official aware of the probe.

The suspect was produced in court and police granted more time to hold him as the probe goes on.

An autopsy of Mumbua's body is expected to take place on Monday, October 7 in Nairobi.

Muloki’s body was found at the City Mortuary in Nairobi days after she had gone missing.

The body was recovered from the Lari area, Kiambu County.

Muloki went missing on September 27 from Mombasa where she operated.

Efforts to trace her since then bore no fruits until her body was discovered and identified almost a week later.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) said the body was discovered at the Nairobi City Mortuary after an intense interrogation session with the suspect in custody.

Ng’etich was arrested after being found with the woman’s motor vehicle in Nakuru.

Investigations reveal that the body was found in a thicket within Mai Mahiu in Lari, Kiambu County.

Police were notified and it was brought to the City Mortuary, where it was booked on September 29, 2024, as an unknown body.

Ngetich opened up to detectives after intense questioning, and further reports indicate that he led police to the location where he dumped the body.

Police later realized it was that of Muloki.

Her vehicle, a Nissan Serena was recovered at Mwariki Police Station in Nakuru.

Police said Muloki, 35 was driving the salon car when she disappeared.

The driver's last communication, according to police, was when she was in Samburu, Kwale County.

Samburu town is located about 66 kilometres from Mombasa Central Business District.

Muloki's disappearance was reported at the Makupa Police Station in Mombasa by her mother.

It was later traced to Nakuru as police intensified their search for the woman who had found success in the male-dominated taxi business.
