The main suspect in the tragic death of 22-year-old Amos Sang was Tuesday apprehended following a nationwide search.
The suspect, whose brutal actions were captured in a video that went viral on social media on October 31 was arrested and detained at Ruaraka Police Station while his accomplice is detained at Longisa Police Station as detectives intensify investigations, police said.
The distressing sequence of events began when the suspect reportedly arrived at Sang’s residence in Teduet village, located in the Chemaner area of Bomet County, accusing him of stealing his chicken.
The suspect forcibly took Sang, and the accusations escalated into what has been described as severe assault.
Reports indicate that Sang was hanged using a chain attached to a pulley, a horrifying scene that left him unconscious.
The suspect then allegedly returned the victim to his home in that state.
Tragically, the victim succumbed to the torture. This was confirmed at Longisa Referral Hospital where his body is currently preserved at the facility's mortuary, awaiting post-mortem examination, police said.
In the wake of this incident, the investigators conducted a thorough search at the suspect’s residence where they recovered crucial evidence, including a pulley and a chain believed to have been used in the assault.
An empty jerrycan believed to have contained diesel, which was reportedly used during the torture was also recovered.
At the victim's residence, clothing soaked in diesel were also found further implicating the suspects.
The suspects will be arraigned to face appropriate charges.
This came as police continued to pursue more suspects behind the lynching of two mechanics at a garage in the Ruai area, Nairobi.
The mechanics were accused of siphoning fuel from cars parked at the garage and clobbered to death.
Police said among those in custody so far include the proprietor of the garage.
Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise amid calls on parties involved to always surrender suspects to authorities for processing.
Police warn those nabbed for mob lynching will face charges including murder.
