Chairman of Kenya National Trading Corporation Evans Kidero has lauded President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for uniting in the interest of the country.

The former governor of Nairobi commended the two leaders for their patriotism.

“I deeply appreciate the statesmanship demonstrated by both President Ruto and Raila Odinga. They chose to prioritise the country's welfare over personal and political interests. This spirit of unity is what Kenya needs to move forward,” he said.

Kidero was speaking during the burial of Mzee Heron Opiyo Otiato, the father of Jared Kopiyo, the chairman of South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited and former Awendo MP, in Nyarombo village, West Sakwa Location in Migori

Kidero also expressed his support for Raila’s bid to become the chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) in the upcoming February 2025 election.

“I wish Raila Odinga the best in his quest for the AUC chairmanship. His leadership at the continental level would be a great honour for Kenya,” he stated.

Additionally, Kidero congratulated Ruto on his election as chairman of the East African Community (EAC) Summit during the 25th anniversary celebration of the regional bloc.

He credited Ruto’s administration for implementing sound economic policies that have reduced the cost of living, particularly through the subsidised fertilizer program.

“Under President Ruto’s leadership, the cost of fertiliser has dropped from Sh7,500 to Sh2,500 per bag. This has significantly boosted agricultural productivity, increased food supply, and ensured food security across the country,” Kidero noted.

Highlighting the progress made since Ruto took office in September 2022, Kidero pointed out that the cost of a 2-kilogramme packet of maize flour has dropped from over Sh200, while fuel prices have stabilised from Sh230 per litre.

He emphasised that these measures reflect Ruto’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promise of reducing the cost of living.

Kidero thanked the President for appointing him as Chairman of KNTC, a body playing a crucial role in importing fertiliser. “The government allocates Sh9 billion annually for subsidised fertilizer importation, which has transformed our agricultural sector and curbed hunger,” he said.

Notable leaders present included Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko, former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, Awendo MP Walter Owino, former Migori Town MP John Dache Pesa, and Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency chairman Odoyo Owidi.
